 Seminar: From theory to practice

Congratulations to the MS/MPhil first batch on the success of the first seminar. This was your first formal presentation before a larger audience and most of you were experimenting in new areas. I hope this proved to be a good learning experience for all of you. The major demand of the presentation was to have a discussion of the theory which should just take 30% of your total presentation time! If there is more on the theory, that should go in the handout. And the remaining talk should have been about the application and significance and application of the theory for you as researchers! Only 4-5 students met this demand. I was disappointed to see most of you reading directly from the slides. No eye-contact and no discussion. This implies that you didn?ÇÖt have any knowledge of what you were presenting. Those who weren?ÇÖt reading directly from the slides, but were saying what was exactly written on the slide did represent good cramming skills, but again this doesn?ÇÖt reveal your intellectual abilities. I hope in the future we are able to overcome these and will have more confidence in ourselves!
