Workshop on "Introduction and Use of Demographic Health Survey (DHS) Data"

Workshop on “Introduction and Use of Demographic Health Survey (DHS) Data” was organized by Community Medicine Department of Fazaia Medical College from 11th – 13th April’ 2017 at Computer lab, Air University, Islamabad.

Dr. Rukhsana Khan, Dr. Arshia Bilal and Dr. Shakira Huma Siddiqui were the facilitators of the workshop. This team was selected after a competitive process by USAID for DHS Fellows Program 2017 and was trained in two workshops of two weeks each at Thailand and Bali.

Main objective of the workshop was to build the capacity of team members in DHS data structure and usage of DHS data for secondary analysis who would further train faculty and students in their university and country.

Opening ceremony of the workshop started with recitation, followed by introduction of DHS program by Dr. Rukhsana. Vice Chancellor Air University AVM Faaiz Amir, HI(M), SBt(R), chaired the occasion and highlighted the importance of the workshop for AU. He emphasized all the participants to make use of the knowledge and skills acquired for further research and publications.

All the participants of workshop showed their utmost interest and participated with zeal enthusiasm.

In closing ceremony Principal FMC Maj Gen Prof. Salman Ali, HI(M),(R) appreciated the efforts of the team and motivated the participants for utilization of DHS data for research and publications. At the end certificates were awarded to all of the participants.

Community Medicine department of FMC organized Second workshop of the series on “Report Writing” on 16 & 17th May 2017. Dr. Rukhsana Khan, Dr. Arshia Bilal and Dr. Shakira Huma Siddiqui facilitated the workshop. Registrar AU, Air Cdre Muhammad Saleem (R), presided the opening session and highlighted the importance of research and scientific writing.

AS a continuation of first workshop on usage and analysis of DHS data, participants developed proposals based on DHS data. In this workshop they were trained to analyze data based on their own study and write the research report. Miss Mamona Kousar Librarian Air University introduced the use of endnote for referencing and bibliography.

On the closing ceremony Principal FMC, Maj Gen Prof. Salman Ali, HI(M),(R) highlighted the importance of research and publications based on DHS data . He appreciated the efforts of Community Medicine department for organizing these workshops. Finally certificates were distributed to the participants and facilitators of the workshop.
