Air University Adventure Club arranged a trip to various parts of KAGAN Valley for a group of over 150 students, faculty and staff of the university. The Vice Chancellor of the University Dr. Ijaz Malik, Air Cmdr ® send-off the group.
The group started its journey at 9am on Thursday, July 23 2009 in six buses. After three hours of drive through the towns of HASSANABAD, HARIPUR, HAVELIAN, and ABBOTANAD, the group stopped in the city of MANSHERA for lunch and prayers. After the lunch/prayer break, the journey continued northward. Passing through the towns of BALAKOT (altitude 3188 ft), KAWAI, PARAS, JARED, MAHANDRI, and KAGAN, the convoy reached the city of NARAN (elevation 8200 ft) around 8pm.
The YOUTH HOSTEL OF NARAN was selected as the base camp for the trip. After offloading its luggage, the group went to the PTDC motel of NARAN city for dinner.
Few adventurous students put up their tents in the terrace of the youth hostel and decided to spend the night outside, just to prepare themselves for the REAL adventure that was ahead of them.
Next morning (Friday, July 24, 2009) the group was divided into two parts. Group A was made-up of experienced people who already have had varying amount of adventurous experience of the valley and wanted to have a slightly relaxed experience this time around. Group B was made up of students and staff who were of more daring nature and wanted to experience the adventure of extreme nature.
