The first destination was Lake Saiful Muluk.. On foot, the trek from Naran to the lake takes about 4-6 hours. The adventure seeking Group B decided to trek up to the lake instead of using the Jeeps. After breakfast at the PTDC Motel, the group B started its hike up toward the Lake Saiful Maluk. After a hike through the green mountains, waterfalls, and glaciers the group reached the lake in around 3 – 3.5 hours. The group was so mesmerized with the sheer natural beauty of the lake and its surroundings that it decided to camp-up and spend a night at the lake with magical and mystical qualities.
The next destinations on the agenda were Lakes Dudipatsar and Lulusar. On the morning of Saturday, July 25, 2009 the group trek down to Naran city, boarded up the bus the drove up to the town of Jalkhad. At Jalkhad, the paved road ends and jeep track continues, so the group transferred from bus to Jeeps for a further eight kilometres drive up to the small village of BESAL. It was decided to spend the night at BESAL. The Lake Lulusar is approximately two kilometres and Lake Dudipatsar is approximately 20 kilometres away from the village of BESAL
After setting up the tents from the night stay, the group members decided to treck up the Lake LULUSAR. The lake is the main source of the Kunhar river, which flows through the entire Kaghan Valley. The lake is much bigger than other lakes around the valley, and is surrounded by snow-capped hills, making it a natural tourist attraction. After visiting the Lake Lulusar, the group members returned to BESAL for night stay in the tents.
On the morning of Sunday, July 26, after the breakfast, the group started its long journey toward the famous Dudipatsar Lake. From BESAL onwards the group members trekked for about 4-5 hours in vast alpine meadows to reach the lake. First two hour trek was really hard as it included crossing over many glaciers, icy cold creeks and steep climb. After the first two hours, the track got noticeably easy, as the group had to walk through huge flat valleys.
After around 5 hours of trekking, the group reached its destination. The deep blue Lake Dudipatsar, at 12470 feet, is surrounded by green hills at about 15,750 feet, with snow patches in the shady hollows. This lake is very little visited by people and its natural beauty is still very much protected. Its water is a beautiful greenish blue and very cold too. The word "dudi" means white and "sar" means lake. This name has been given to the lake because of the white colour of snow at surrounding peaks. In summer the water of the lake reflects like a mirror.
After the spending the night at Dudipatsar Lake, the group started its journey back on the morning of Monday, July 27 2009. They trekked back to basil, took jeeps to Jhalkhad, and bus to Naran. The worthy Vice Chancellor received the students at NARAN City and congratulated them on completing the adventurous trip successfully.
After spending the night in Naran, the group reached back to Islamabad on the evening of Tuesday, July 28, 2009
