PhD EE (Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering)
PhD in Electrical Engineering is a 48 credit-hour program beyond the Masters Degree Students are required to complete a minimum of six courses of 6xx/7xx/8xx level, equivalent of 18 credit hours from their chosen area of specialization. Students are required to have at least one course with 8xx course code and at most three courses with 6xx code They are also required to conduct research and submit their findings in terms of a PhD dissertation equivalent of 30 credit hours. Satisfactory performance in the course work as well as the PhD dissertation is must to successfully fulfill the requirements for the award of the PhD degree. Department of Electrical Engineering offers PhD degree program in following areas of specialization, namely Radar Systems Engineering, Digital Communication Systems, Control Systems, and Signal and Image Processing. The course work is designed to give in-depth knowledge in the chosen area of specialization. It prepares the students for Doctoral Qualifying Examination and lays the foundation for high quality research in the selected area. The Doctoral Qualifying Examination (DQE) is a written examination and is conducted by the Department after the completion of the required coursework A student will have two chances to pass DQE In order to be eligible to take DQE, a student must have at least 300/400 CGPA in the required course work A student must pass the written DQE examination of the department with at least 70% aggregate marks in the exam and at least 60% marks in each subject in at most two attempts After passing the DQE, the student will attain the status of a doctoral candidate Students failing to clear DQE in two attempts will be separated from the program DQE will consist of two papers, each of three hours duration The two papers will cover the subject matter of six courses of Ph.D. After passing the DQE, a student will work on his/her research proposal and request for Proposal Defense Examination (PDE) Student will formally defend his/her proposal in front of Guidance & Examination Committee (GEC) The candidate must have at least one article published or accepted in a HEC-approved international journalbefore writing up of his thesis. His thesis will be sent to two foreign evaluators After reception of two positive reports and incorporation of changes suggested, the GEC shall forward the case to FBGS for final defense examination The minimum time for completion of PhD degree is three years.
