The Department of Mathematics is one of Air University's rapidly emerging department, having a strong reputation for Research, Undergraduate programs and Postgraduate training. The department lays a foundation for critical thinking through fostering skills and innovative ideas. Department of Mathematics encourages Students to work on formidable challenges in the present Era of science and technology by promoting excellence through learning of mathematics and its applications.
The department is not only running its three-degree programmes successfully but is also providing support to allied departments by offering Mathematics courses at UG and PG levels along with joint research ventures. Air University Multan Campus (AUMC) and Bilquis Post Graduate College, Nur Khan are associated with the Air University Islamabad campus for BS and MS Mathematics. Currently, the enrolled students in BS are 155, 41 students are in MS and 37 are registered as a PhD student. So far, 05 BS batches, 110 MS and 06 PhD students have been successfully completed their respective degree programs. Moreover, Air University offers three scholarship programmes: HEC-Need-based scholarship, HEC-Ehsaas UG Scholarship Program, and The Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF).
Air University Maths Department have a total of 25 Faculty members, 21 of them are PhD’s with versatile research areas. All of they are approved supervisors by HEC. The research interests of the faculty span the range to the newest and most innovative. We have different research groups working in the field of Computational Mathematics, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Particulate Flows, Algebraic Geometry, Chromatography, Cryptography, Stochastic Analysis, Optimization, Fuzzy Algebra and many more. According to Stanford University's international rating, our two faculty members are nominated as the top 2% of scientists. The department has highest number of publications in 2019. In the last five years, the Department of Mathematics has secured many research projects from HEC and other national organizations over the worth of 20 million PKR. Highly qualified faculty help our students to earn grants for study abroad.
Seminars are routinely hosts by the Department of Mathematics in order to promote a vibrant research environment. Furthermore, the department holds seminars for MS/Ph.D. research students, providing an opportunity for students to enhance their presenting skills and share their ongoing research work in many areas of the field. Our UG and PG students often participate and present their research work in the International Summer Schools and international conferences, respectively. Department of Mathematics faculty has an active research coloration in China, Germany, UK, Turkey, Russia, Romania and Saudia Arabia where our faculty members and MS/PhD research students often visit for trainings and research work. Furthermore, the Department of Mathematics is devoted to working with national commercial partners to increase the effect of applied research.
