Objectives:
MS Statistics and Data Analytical Science Program is a relatively emerging discipline, organized around the rapidly growing body of knowledge about principled methods for data collection and data analysis, the making of rational decisions under uncertainty, and the modeling of randomness in any quantitative inquiries, including the social, natural, and medical sciences. The primary objective of this degree program is to empower students with the conceptual frameworks, computational proficiency, and mathematical acumen requisite for proficiently quantifying uncertainty, effectively analyzing complex datasets across diverse domains, and implementing statistically rigorous methodologies to inform decision-making processes. Students enrolled in the MS Statistics and Data Analytical Science will develop the skills necessary to analyze, discover, and innovate in a data-rich world. Students gain hands-on experience conducting interdisciplinary data-oriented research.
The Department of Basic and Applied Sciences, graduate program aims to develop statisticians, Data Scientists and Data Analyst not only for academia, but also ones who will become leaders in endeavors such as Banking, Marketing, Industries, Analyst, Medicine, Law, Ministries, Technology, Government, and Public Sector. A basic goal of the concentration in Statistics and Data Analytical Science is to help students acquire the conceptual, computational, and mathematical tools for quantifying uncertainty and making sense of complex data arising from many applications – including statistically sound ways of collecting such data using Python, R and many other Software.
Scope:
The scope of statistics and Data Analytical Science in real life involves using data analysis to solve everyday problems, make informed choices, and understand trends and patterns in various fields. As we know that Data Analytical Science is the study of data in different forms to make healthy assumptions about behaviors and tendencies and to make these assumptions the information needs to be organized according to the concepts of statistics so that the study becomes easy and hence the findings become more accurate.
When the data is big and unorganized, statistics plays a powerful role in that situation. When a company uses statistics to find insights, it makes the tedious task look minimalist and easy in front of the big and buffer information that was provided earlier.
Statistics and Data Analytical Science eradicate the unwanted information and catalogues the useful data in an effortless way making the humongous task of organizing inputs seem so futile and serene.
Field Trips & Study Tours:
Our Students have Collaboration Field Trips to see the practical use of subject with:
- 1) OGDCL: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited, commonly known as OGDCL is a Pakistani oil and gas company. It has a primary listing on the Pakistan Stock Exchange, and secondary listing on the London Stock Exchange.
- 2) Pakistan Bureau of Statistics: Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) is the prime official agency of Pakistan, responsible for collection, compilation and dissemination of reliable and timely statistical information to the policy makers, planners and researchers.
- 3) Pakistan Stock Exchange: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) came into existence in January 2016 when the Government of Pakistan decided to merge the three large exchange markets of the country (based in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad) into one combined market.
- 4) Islamabad Safe City: Safe City Islamabad is a security and surveillance system implemented in Islamabad Capital Territory city of Pakistan. They aim to enhance public safety to improve police operations and leverage technology to ensure maintain the overall law and order of Islamabad.
