Message of the Dean

Welcome to the Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences at the Air University. You are about to embark on an exciting new stage of your life, one that will bring many invaluable learning opportunities with it. The University aims to provide a challenging and supportive environment for its students. The mission is to prepare our students to be future leaders, and to ensure academic and personal success.

The Faculty of Basic & Applied Sciences (FBAS) comprises of two departments: The Department of Mathematics and the Department of Physics. There are 38 faculty members working in these departments. Most of them have Ph.D. degrees from leading universities in industrialized countries. They have specializations in topology, image processing, cryptography, numerical analysis, mathematical modeling and simulation, materials science, genetic algorithms, radiation physics, solar energy, and computational fluid dynamics. Currently, the faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences offer BS, MS and Ph.D. degrees in both Mathematics and Physics. FBAS has also launched MS Statistics and data analytical science in Spring 2024.

The faculty has one mission; excellence in teaching, research, and innovation, and we excel in all. One of the objectives of FBAS is strengthening the ties between the Basic Sciences, Engineering, Computing and Medical Sciences. FBAS is equipped with state-of-the-art research labs for materials synthesis, magnetic, electric, and structural characterizations enabling cutting edge research and ensuring students receive a comprehensive hands-on learning experience. Two international conferences and several international webinars have been arranged by the FBAS so far.

The FBAS produced excellent research in terms of impact factor, number of papers and their citations. The faculty members published more than 200 research papers during the last three years. Many projects are in progress funded through national and international forums. Four FMs of FBAS have been included in the list of 2% world scientists by a ranking done by Stanford University. Professor Dr. Asghari Maqsood won the Lifetime contribution award by COMSTECH in 2024. The Department of Physics stands at number five among the nationwide universities as reported by PCST in a recent ranking.
