The Department of English at Air University is one of the most prominent, popular and well-reputed departments in the field, within the vicinity of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Studying Literature and Linguistics at the Department of English is an extraordinary journey, because of the tremendous depth of knowledge an individual is able to dive in. The department offers subjects which are useful for multidisciplinary studies; one learns about a wide range of disciplines ranging from philosophy, human rights, literary theories and movements, postcolonial studies, Pakistani literature, world literature, language teaching, poetry, drama, novel to psycholinguistics, research methods, translation studies, sociolinguistics, academic writing and discourse studies.

The academic programs offered by the Department of English include:

1. BS English program offers a strong foundation in literature, linguistics and English language teaching to the undergraduates. Many of our students have proved themselves as distinguished literary writers and have presented the university at various forums. At the end of the degree program, students produce a peer-reviewed final year project (FYP).

2. MS Linguistics, and MS Linguistics & Literature provide advanced intensive courses on research, critical thinking through comparative analysis and application of theory in a social context to contemporary issues. The programs enable scholars to produce empirical research, leading them to become critical thinkers, informed decision-makers, and well-rounded citizens.

3. PhD Linguistics and PhD Linguistics & Literature programs promote strong research skills, critical thinking, theoretical analysis, construction of research design, analysis of societal problems and preservation of languages in line with international research practices.

The Department of English provides the scholars with a sound theoretical knowledge complemented with hands on practice in the form of intensive and activities carried out during the research period. The faculty utilizes modern teaching techniques and state-of-the-art technology through our language laboratories and computer-aided courses.

The faculty of the Department of English comprises of highly qualified professors with foreign research experience ranging from PhDs to Post Doctorates. Our faculty contributes research publications to both national and international journals regularly. Moreover, the department has worked in close partnership with Higher Education Commission, American Universities, USAID, and British Council on various social, research-based and language teaching projects over the past years.

Along with these academic successes, the department holds international conferences every year, which are based on different social, literary and linguistic issues. To create visionary scholars for a better tomorrow, the department organizes research seminars, talks, professional trainings and workshops for the development of its faculty as well as students.
