AUORIC strives to serve state and private organizations in solving their problems at their door step as per the international standards. An Industry-Academia linkages meeting with industrial representatives of twin cities was organised at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industries in collaboration with Higher Education Commission Pakistan in 2018. All industrial and university representatives briefed about the prevailing challenges faced by Industry and Academia. Air University was represented by AU ORIC and Director ORIC, Air Commodore ® Afzaal Ahmed Khan presented about Air University research strengths.
In a follow up meeting IPI (Indus Pipes Islamabad) requested AUORIC to get AU help in solving its challenges in operations and marketing. Director ORIC, Mr Afzaal Ahmed Khan and Dr Idrees Khawaja, Former Dean AUSOM had consultative meetings with IPI authorities and after detailed discussion they assigned the responsibility to Mr. Muhammad Shakeel lecturer in marketing at AUSOM; to facilitate Indus pipes Islamabad in the best way possible. Mr. Shakeel alongwith his students worked on that project and came up with some wonderful solutions in line with the set criteria of IPI. IPI authorities were very much satisfied with the solutions offered by AU team and resultantly offered internships to AU students in other areas of their business.
Workshops for Introducing Sustainable Energy Related Technologies to High School Students
Energy being the life blood of socioeconomic development of any country is vital for the technological application that promotes productivity. Air University held three workshops on Sustainable Energy Related Technologies in October 2016 in which 30 students each from Roots Millennium School, OPF Boys College and HeadStart School and 60 students from OPF Girls College participated. The purpose of the program was to target the highschool students for creating awareness regarding sustainable/renewable energy sources, green energy and energy efficiency. The workshops not only gave an insight to young learners on the emerging trends in power generation but also its worldwide utilization. The faculty and students from each school were all praises for the theoretical and practical knowledge imparted to them through different hands on activities and experiments on the concepts of Sustainable Energy. The workshops certainly created a knowledge-sharing platform where students built up their network and skills in the field of renewable, alternate and green energy. It also greatly enriched and boosted their curiosity in the field of ‘Energy Engineering’.
NCCS- Air University Islamabad
The National Centre for Cyber Security (NCCS) at Air University was inaugurated on Monday, 21st May 2018 by the former Federal Minister for Interior, Mr. Ahsan Iqbal at (AU) Islamabad. The minister was exhilarated to share that the establishment of NCCS was his dream which had now been fulfilled. NCCS Mission is to build national capabilities and capacities in Cyber Security to produce indigenous professionals and solutions in the field of Cyber Security. It also plans to start PhD and MS programmes in Cyber Security for sustainable researchers’ production (128 PhDs and 95 MS only through this project). It also aims to establish International linkages through Director and PIs visits. Also for raising awareness for establishing new start-ups an array of events are lined up including Cyber Security Business Ideas Competitions and National Cyber Security Conferences.
