The Mechatronics Engineering Department, established in 2003 with B.E. and M.S. degree programs. The Department started PhD program in Mechatronics Engineering in 2015 with research emphasis in the areas of robotics, sensors & actuators, industrial automation and intelligent energy systems. The Department n has an academic staff with PhD faculty members and faculty members registered for, or nearing completion, of their Ph.D. degrees. There are well equipped laboratories including CNC machines, Robotics and industrial automation, Thermal sciences, Control, Mechatronic system design, Embedded systems and Mechanism theory & design Labs. In addition a MEMS research lab is established as a part of National Center of Robotics and Automation. Other common university facilities available to the department are computer labs, library and labs of digital electronics and microprocessors.
In Pakistan, Mechatronics is well-suited to the industry as it provides the right mix of mechanical, electronics, and computer Programming to enable an engineer to grapple with the essentials. At a graduate level, the department aims to focus on robotics, sensors and control systems. The M.S. programme allows a student sufficient time after the completion of the mandatory eight-course programme, to pursue a research area at an internationally acceptable level. An M.S. thesis in mechatronics builds on the undergraduate foundation, is aimed at producing work of a quality leading to doctoral research and sufficient to meet the standards of international conferences. PhD scholars are doing state of the art research which will contribute to society in the areas of Biorobotics, Intelligent enrgy systems and design and testing of micro and nano sensors for elemental assaying. This research has been published and presented in international conferences and well reputed journals.
